FIVE MAJOR SIGNS OF POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION

Jasmine B.

In the year of 1990, on the evening of November 14th, I graced the world with my presence. I was a very bright and intelligent child with mind of my own. I always tried to see the best in people and enjoyed being an individual. I had a passion for writing and loved the idea of learning something new. I received my Bachelor of Arts in 2013 for Mass Comminution with a focus on print journalism. I met my husband, Kyle in the year of 2014 and we eloped in 2017. The following year, we had a large wedding celebration with a 1920s Great Gatsby theme because I have a love for everything vintage. A few months later, we discovered that we were expecting our first child. I would love to say that I enjoyed every moment of my pregnancy, but to be very honest it was very difficult and painful. I suffered from things like morning sickness, hypertension, pelvic floor pains, and mild anemia. I was so sick and weak, I felt like a zombie extra off of the ‘Walking Dead.” Due to my high blood pressure, I had an induced labor and this process traumatized me for life. The postpartum period was even worse than I could imagine with being diagnosed with depression. With the help of family and friends, I became more aware of my mental issues and was able to seek the proper resources such as therapy, to assist me through these troubling times. I am currently on the path of regaining self identity and self worth, in which I hope you can follow me on this journey.
