Why do I always look extremely tired? Probably because I haven’t had a full nights sleeps in ages. I just want to look and feel alive again!
I had these same thoughts swirling all around in my head after I gave birth to my son, Maximus. Prior to the baby being born, I had a passion for make-up and saw it as a form of art. But since becoming a mother, I have lost that passion for doing my make-up.
One year later, I am still trying to incorporate my old love with my new lifestyle. Simplifying the steps and using less products has been the biggest help for me. Now, I have formulated an easy four step make-up routine, that I would love to share with everyone. My hope is that this can help mamas feel more comfortable with experiment with make-up even if they’ve never used it before.
STEP ONE: EYEBROWS
My brows are the first thing I start with because it helps me bring some structure to my face. Using a brow pencil, pomade, or powder is going to be a great way to start. And you don’t have to spend a bunch of money either. Most, if not all products mentioned are going to be available at any drug store or dollar store. The goal is to fill in your eyebrows to make them fuller and thicker. I prefer a brow pencil because I feel like I have more control and it is easier to create small, realistic eyebrow hairs. Make-up is about experimenting, so just have fun with it.
STEP TWO: LASHES
As I’m looking down at my son, I can’t help but to admire his long and full eyelashes. Not to worry, mama has a few ways to recreate some similar lashes as well. Mascara and false lashes is a simple trick to make you look wide awake with only two hours of sleep.
For a beginner, mascara might be the easiest option, so finding the best type of formula for your lashes is very important. Whether, you need to add more length, volume, or even make them waterproof, there are many types to choose from. As for false lashes, I used to be intimidated by them at first. I felt like if I made a mistake I would look like a generic version of Miss Piggy from The Muppets. But with all jokes aside, I had to have some practice and patience, like I try to do in everyday life.
Youtube videos were my secret weapon while learning the application process. So if you really want to learn how to apply false lashes, setting aside so mama-me time to practice is going to be so helpful.
STEP THREE: CHEEKS
Now, there are penalty of options to add definition to your face and cheek bones such as bronzer, blush, highlighter. If you prefer rosey cheeks try out a pink or mauve colored blush or if you want to look more awake use a shimmering highlighter. As for myself, love to use a good bronzer to define and add some warmth to my face with very little effort.
I try to start out with the smallest amount of product possible so I’m able to build it up without it looking to heavy. You just have to find out what shade and tone works best for you. And again please research with tutorials on You Tube or even take a visit to a makeup counter at the department store so you can learn the ticks of the trade. Remember learning should be fun so be adventurous.
STEP FOUR: LIPS
We have made it to the finally step of the routine the lips. This step will also contain various options, such as a moisturizing lip balm, glosses, lipstick, liner, and liquid lipstick. Now, I understand that the list of products above can sound very intimidating Try not to let the choices overwhelm you.
Experimenting with different formulas, shades, and textures is going to be important when finding what type of product works for you. I would prefer to use a gloss when in a hurry, because I am such a perfectionist, it would take me forever to use a combination of the products listed.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Make-up products shouldn’t be use to impress anyone else but yourself. Please do not feel pressured to wear make-up everyday while trying to be a mom at the same time. But for the ones that do decide to wear it, do it because it makes you happy and makes you feel pampered. I hope that these quick tips were helpful to some of the mama’s out there who need a little special touch to their self care routine.
I have learned that, alone time as a mom should be a requirement. Why not have fun with that time and trying learning something new. Remember if you hate the results, its just make up, it wipes right off.
